As an extension of your dental practice, a blog can provide many benefits to you and your patients. For current patients, a blog can help answer common questions while they’re visiting your website. Even something short and sweet that addresses a routine query can save your staff some precious phone time.
For potential patients, it’s a way for them to find your website online. When they are searching on Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc., you want your practice’s website to show up higher in the results. That’s done through Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
SEO is not just keywords. Search engines such as Google use an algorithm to determine what pages get presented, and in what order. Although these algorithms are extremely complex, the three core metrics that search engines evaluate to determine the quality of a site and how it should rank are links, content, and page structure. Having—and continually adding to—a blog is an effective way to add content on your site and rank higher in search. That will help more potential patients find your practice.
The hardest part of blogging may be the actual writing. Keep it simple and clear. For example, you can state the problem in the introduction, then provide actionable steps for the readers to take to solve the problem, and then sum up the benefits that the solution provides. You can use images, sub-heads, and links to break up the content and make it easy to read.
After you’ve written and posted a blog on your dental website, share the link through your social media channels, newsletter, or email. Many dental practices include links to popular blog articles in their appointment reminder emails, for example.
If you really want to help your blog post gain visibility, you can also invest in promoting your Facebook post. You have to pay for this kind of attention, but you will get views.
To start, listen to your patients. Keep track of the questions and concerns you and your staff hear regularly and write blogs on those issues. If you get stuck on topics to write, here’s a long list of ideas you can share with your team.
